Bourbon & Bitters is a blog celebrating the most classic of all classic American cocktails, the Old Fashioned. There’s a reason why this libation has persisted for more than two centuries: Because when made right, it’s simple, elegant, and always delicious.
That said, there is no “wrong” way to make an Old Fashioned, either. Yes, the time-honored mix of whiskey, bitters, sugar and water over ice remains the favorite and most timeless Old Fashioned recipe. But variations with tequila, mezcal, agave, and other liqueurs and mixers can be just as worthy–and oftentimes, stand up on their own.
Here at Bourbon & Bitters, we’ll explore the history of the Old Fashioned, review the offerings from our favorite bars and restaurants, and get to know the people who make our lives better by crafting these cocktails and the ingredients therein.
